Weight Training

 Weight Training

Weight training, also called strength training, is a specific type of exercise that uses resistance to produce muscle contraction and release to tone and strengthen the musculoskeletal system, increase endurance, and increase muscle mass. Weight training has the added benefits of increasing self-esteem, confidence, and overall fitness. The following specific benefits have been proven through research:

  • Increasing muscle mass raises your basal metabolism which means that you burn more calories throughout the day long after you have finished exercising
  • Increases energy
  • Strengthens your bones and reduces the risk of osteoporosis
  • Slows aging by preventing the loss of muscle mass and changes in metabolism that begin after the age of 30
  • Improves endurance and increases overall strength
  • Tones and shapes muscles
  • Improves posture
  • Increases good cholesterol (HDL)
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Improves balance and coordination
  • Elevates mood
  • Reduces body fat, especially around the middle which has been shown to be dangerous for the incidence of heart attack
  • Helps to control weight

Your Trainer knows exactly what exercises work each muscle group and how they should be performed to gain optimum benefit. By applying a variety of different exercises in a specific order, your Trainer can help you sculpt your body while also gaining the health benefits listed above. You will be instructed as to the proper form for each exercise which will have the twofold effect of isolating the muscles that are being targeted with an exercise, and preventing injury. Weight training is particularly helpful for breaking through plateaus in weight loss. It is positively a necessity to slow the aging process.
